Been feeling like I've been less creative recently, especially after last week's mamoth postings about things I made a few months ago... not had the time to concerntrate on anything new, but I did buy this polyformed base, on a rare day out with my mum and my nan. We went up to a place called HobbyCraft with the full intention to just look around... yeah right! Needless to say many shopping baskets later I hatched a plan for… Continue
SILENCE
This work is a sunset at the sea with a few coconut palms in the foreground.
I felted this wall panel to depict the silence and peace on a quiet evening on the beach with the only sound the waves and the wind in the palm leaves.
The wool has been dyed with onion skins and yellow cosmos flowers, both mordanted with alum and some have been treated afterwards with soda or iron water (rusted nails in water) or a combination of the 2 methods to give a range of different yellows, oranges and… Continue
Can I just share how thrilled I was to meet an original, star in felting world last weekend in Taos?! My fiber fanatic friend and I were attending the Taos Wool Festival which was, as ever fabulous and filled with artists, farmers, spinners and mad women like ourselves. After the first day of wandering, buying up wool and skeins of yummy hand-dyed goodies, we got a little tipsy at lunch and wandered over the street to a spot above a fiber arts store. As we ascended the steps, following the sight… Continue
FELTING FOR ME IS SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS, IF I START WITH A PLAN IT ALWAYS TURNS OUT TO BE DIFFERENT. THAT IS WHY I CAN'T WORK IN COMMISSION. I MADE ONCE THE DECISSION WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU RECOGNISE IT? Continue

Yesterday I have been making a lot of tea - not for drinking, but to use for natural dyeing. This is the recipy - use 8 to10 tea bags or 200g of tea leaves in a pan with 500 ml of water, bring to boil and then simmer for 15 minutes. Allow to cool. Strain the teawater, put in a pan wit… Continue
Do you remember my tutorial, Machine Embellishing – How to use your Embellisher? Well today I am posting the finished project, so you can see how you could take a machine embellished fabric and turn it into a product... I may even make it my next competition prize!

To all my felting friends here, I wanted to post an update and say I am getting ready for the Leeds Folk Festival on Saturday on Sunday, September 20 & 21. I went Friday evening and set up my tent and a few basic items for all the felting items I have to sell. I have been busy, busy and I plan on posting some pictures of the event later next week. I have a lot of nuno felted scarves, some tops, hats and a little bit of jewelry. The jewelry took a back seat this time, I just couldn't get it a… Continue
I was intrigued by a video I found called, 'Wet Felting Wool over Soap' by www.crunchyparent.com. So I added it to the Working with Felt forum to share with other feltmakers. Here it is...

Following on from my post about my Machine Embellisher… I promised a few readers and customers a brief ‘how to’ for my Janome machine. I’ve outlined below a little bit about the machine and a quick test piece, but I want to over the next month show you a few small projects and ideas for how you could take them further.
Ok, let’s begin with ‘How to use your Janome Embellisher’ (please remember there are lots of other makes of machine out there too).
First of all gather you materials... for this… Continue
I've just recently returned home following a fabulous 5 days up in Värtsilä, Eastern Finland - literally a stones throw from the Russian border. Under the excellent tuition of Rod Welch and Karoliina Arvilommi, I learnt an awful lot about dyeing wool using plants and mushrooms. I have posted a host of photos on my Flickr, too many for here so check them out at

It was hard work picking the plants, keeping the fires going, remembering the mordants, checkin… Continue
Yesterday was problaby the last warm beautiful summerday here in the Netherlands. Up to the beach, as I made recently a wild colored feltpiece, this was a perfect occasion to make a picture of it. The dogs (nederlandse schapendoes) loved it in the water. Continue
